Volubilis, about 1h15 from Fez, is the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its floor mosaics and triumphal arch. Local guides are available at the entrance.
Next door, Moulay Idriss Zerhoun spreads over two hills and is one of the country’s most important pilgrimage towns — the viewpoint above it is a highlight.
The day ends in Meknes, the imperial city of Moulay Ismail: Bab Mansour, Place el-Hedim, the royal granaries and the medina, before driving back to Fez.
