The three options
Taxis: official taxis wait outside the terminal and charge a fixed fare into town, higher at night. Fares change, so confirm the amount at the rank before you get in.
Bus 16: the cheapest way, linking the airport with the train station in the new town. From there you still need a petit taxi to the medina.
Private transfer: a driver meets you with a sign, tracks your flight and, crucially, someone walks you and your luggage from the medina gate to your riad.

Why the medina gate matters
Cars cannot enter Fès el-Bali. Depending on your riad, the drop-off will be at Bab Bou Jeloud, Bab Guissa, R’cif or another gate. Ask your riad which gate is closest before you land and send it to your driver.
Arriving late
Many flights from Europe land in the evening. At night the medina alleys are quiet and hard to navigate with a suitcase: arranging to be walked to the door is worth it.
